Wiarton is one of those small town communities that Ontario is famous for, and is now part of the Town of South Bruce Peninsula. As a "Four Season" town there is always something for residents and visitors to experience. As well, the Niagara Escarpment runs through the area, providing some of the best summer hiking trails in Ontario, as well as cross country skiing areas for winter sports enthusiasts.
The sense of community in this small town of 2,300 residents is strong, but as a tourist destination it's also known for its friendliness towards visitors. This is a close knit community where it truly feels like you know everyone. The local tourist attractions help to provide young people with part-time employment year round, which partly explains the low crime rate in the area. Wiarton is family and youth oriented and makes for the perfect neighbourhood environment for families. One area of Wiarton that all residents and visitors enjoy, is the recently renovated Bluewater Park home to many fabulous outdoor events throughout the year, such as the Rotary Village Fair, Canada Day celebrations with fireworks over the water, Wiarton Willie festival events and so much more. There is also a great family playground, boat launching facility, baseball diamond, tennis courts, swimming pool ... something for everyone!
Wiarton has much to offer tourists to the area and the town is one of the friendliest to visit. As a year round tourist town visitors are offered a wide variety of activities to experience. As part of the Georgian Peninsula, the town is located in a protected area known as Colpoys Bay. It's an ideal area for fishing, kayaking, sailing and canoeing. After the summer tourists leave the next big tourist influx is the changing colors in the fall. Being part of the Niagara Escarpment provides this area with some of the most stunning vistas in all of Ontario.
Winter in the area offers numerous opportunities for residents and visitors. Wiarton has some of the best snowmobile trails available in the area. Along with these trails you'll find excellent snow groomed trails for skiing, cross country skiing and snowshoeing. But, for Wiarton the big winter event is the Wiarton Willie Festival. People from all over Ontario flock to Wiarton for this end of Winter festival. Every February 2nd, people from across Canada and around the world wait to hear what Willie will predict an early spring or 6 more weeks of winter. It's an event enjoyed by all residents. It heralds the day when spring will begin and everything comes alive again. Birds return, flowers bloom and trees return to life.
Homes in Wiarton range from cottages, newly built homes and old historical homes. Wiarton is proud of its heritage and those lucky enough to live in this area truly value everything about their unique community.
